Word Books

If you didn't get enough words yesterday, check out these sources!
Filled with words for children by grade level, Children's Writer's Word Book will fill your hours with the joy of words that kids will understand. It helps authors discover which words editors would accept for stories for specific age levels.
If you're just looking for a lot of words quickly without the distraction of meanings found in dictionaries, check out Webster's Instant Word Book (35,000 words) or Louis A. Leslie's 20,000 Words for Stenographers, Students, Authors & Proofreaders. I used both books professionally in an office setting long before computers were in common use. They served as spellcheckers for office workers, dividing the words correctly into syllables for line breaks.
Words, words, and more words! Sometimes finding the right word is just a matter of thumbing through a book filled with words.

Are you a Word Nerd? Most authors are, and I'm no exception. Give me a dictionary, thesaurus, or book of any kind, and I will search out words. I love words I don't know, words with multiple definitions, or words used in amusing or unusual ways! If you want to celebrate National Word Nerd Day with me today, just grab a crossword puzzle, a word game, or a dictionary and savor the joy of words!

PS - You can actually do that any day of the year. You don't have to wait until January 9th comes around again!

If you'd like to buy a copy of my books, you can find locations online at debcushman.com.
I'll be at A Christmas Bazaar at Clark College tomorrow, Saturday, December 14th from 9 am - 4 pm!
