It Starts with a Love of Writing

My writing has always been about journeys. Quests, adventures, passages, travels, whatever you want to call them, they conjure visions of action, mystery, and exploration. My characters are always looking around the corner for what's next.

My author's journey has taken a very similar route. I started writing stories in the second grade. My teacher distributed construction-paper shapes (apples, stars, pencils, etc.) which we stapled together with blank sheets inside to form small books. Then we created our story with a word or two she provided for inspiration. Each week we created a new shaped book and wrote our story inside. Imagine it. Every week, we explored a word or two by creating something magical with it. You really had to think about the word and find a way to share it so that others would understand your vision. No wonder I have such a love of English.
Every time I hear someone say they don't like to write, I think, You should have had my second-grade teacher!

P.S. I first shared this story in my newsletter. If you'd like to receive my newsletter each month, you can sign-up with the form at the right of the screen. You'll also receive access to my Nadavir Kids Club with games, puzzles, and crafts for kids!

Faery Inspiration

I’ve been hard at work on book two of the Chronicles of Nadavir. The second book features all four of the main characters of the first book but focuses on one in particular: Ping, a pixie faery. Without final illustrations for the book, I’ve had to rely on my imagination and a faery statue that is close to my heart.

There are some differences between Ping in the book and the statue, especially in Ping’s looks. But the attitude is very much the same. Every time I’ve gotten stuck, I’ve had a conversation with little Ping, the statue, and she’s led the way in the creative direction of her story. After all, she knows best!

Nadavir Kids Club

Do you have a child in your life who is 8-12 years old? That's the target audience for my novel Frigg's Journey to Anasgar, and I've created a set of FREE activities for them to enjoy when you join my Nadavir Kids Club! There are games, puzzles, crafts, stories, and other fun activities in the Clubhouse.
Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, Aunts, Uncles, and Educators will receive a FREE newsletter with a new activity every month and updates on Deb's books and events to share with the children and students in their lives. (If you don't have a child in your life or just want to do the activities yourself, you are welcome to enjoy them. No judgment here!) 😉

What is Nadavir? It is the home of the magical folk who live in the world of the Chronicles of Nadavir Books! I thought that they worked so hard to bring this series to life they deserved their own club.
