When I was the librarian of a school that focused on immersing students in both arts and academics, I brought a small tree into the library each April and adorned it with rolled-up scrolls. Students were invited to select a scroll, and their delightful smiles warmed my heart as they unrolled and read the poem printed inside.
I also provided blank scrolls and ribbons, inviting students to write their own poems and add them to the tree for other students to enjoy. It was an activity that students and staff looked forward to each year. It is my sincere hope that it provided a fond memory for those students and that helped them appreciate and seek out thoughtful poetry.
Why not find a bit of greenery in your yard to bring inside and place in a vase? You can write your favorite poems on slips of paper, roll them into scrolls, and decorate your Poet Tree!
